eSIM Europe 2026 — one plan for 30+ countries, no roaming
eSIM Europe 2026: data in Spain, France, Italy, Germany and 30+ countries with one plan. From $25, activate in 30 s, no roaming charges — coverage, real
If you're traveling through Europe in 2026 visiting Spain, France, Italy, Germany, or other countries across the continent on the same trip, a regional eSIM saves you from swapping cards at each border and paying separate roaming fees. At eSIM Ahora we sell plans covering 30+ European countries with a single purchase — activate the profile before you leave and it works from the moment you land in any included country.
What is a regional eSIM for Europe
A European regional eSIM is a downloadable data profile that works across multiple countries without inserting a physical SIM or buying separate packages at each destination. Carriers offering these plans sign roaming agreements with local operators (Orange, Vodafone, Telefónica, Deutsche Telekom, TIM, Wind Tre, among others) so your device automatically connects to the available network in each country you visit.
At eSIM Ahora we use Tier-1 carrier infrastructure across the European Union plus Switzerland, the UK, Iceland, and Norway. The complete list of countries included in our regional plans appears on the France purchase page — France is one of the main hubs, but the plan covers from Portugal to Poland and from Finland to Greece.
Typical geographic coverage
eSIM Ahora's regional plans for Europe cover these territories:
- European Union (27 member states): Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden.
- European Economic Area (outside the EU): Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway.
- Other included countries: United Kingdom, Switzerland.
This adds up to 30+ countries where the same eSIM profile works without reconfiguring anything. If your itinerary includes Spain, France, and Italy over 10 days, you buy one plan and connectivity is continuous.
How automatic roaming works on a regional eSIM
When you land in Madrid, your iPhone or Android scans local networks (Movistar, Orange, Vodafone) and connects to the one with the best signal according to the roaming agreements of the carrier issuing your eSIM. If the next day you cross into France, your device detects French networks (Orange, SFR, Bouygues) and switches automatically without you doing anything.
This process is called roaming steering and happens in seconds. You don't need to power off your phone or manually select a network. The eSIM profile comes with a list of permitted carriers (called PLMN list) and your device chooses the first one available with 4G/5G coverage.
What if you travel to a non-included country
If your itinerary includes Turkey, Morocco, Russia, or any country outside the list of 30+ European territories, the regional plan will not work. In that case you have two options:
- Buy an additional plan specific to that country (for example, eSIM Turkey or eSIM Morocco).
- Activate the regional plan only during the stages within Europe and use the country-specific plan when you get there.
We allow you to install multiple eSIM profiles on the same device (iPhone XS or later, Google Pixel 3 or later, Samsung Galaxy S20 or later) and switch between them from Settings > Mobile Data. Only one can be active at a time, but switching takes less than 10 seconds.
Advantages of a regional plan versus country-by-country plans
Time and money savings
If you visit Spain, France, Italy, and Germany over 2 weeks, buying an individual plan for each country would cost you:
- Spain: $3–$8 for 3 GB (7 days)
- France: $3–$8 for 3 GB (7 days)
- Italy: $3–$8 for 3 GB (7 days)
- Germany: $3–$8 for 3 GB (7 days)
Total: $12–$32 and 4 separate purchases. A regional plan with 10 GB valid for 14 days costs $25–$40 (June 2026 pricing) — one purchase, one QR code, no reinstalling every time you cross a border.
No billing surprises
Traditional carriers (Movistar, Vodafone, Orange) charge roaming fees per day outside your home country. Although within the EU "Roam Like at Home" (since 2017) eliminates extra charges for European residents, if you're traveling from Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, or any country outside Europe, your local operator will charge international roaming — between $5 and $15 per day, depending on the carrier.
With a prepaid eSIM Ahora regional plan you pay upfront and the cost is fixed. No monthly bill, no surprise charges the next month. You see the price before purchasing and that's the total.
Single installation, continuous coverage
You download the eSIM profile once (scan the QR code you receive by email in less than 30 seconds), activate it before you leave your country, and from the moment you land at any European airport you already have data. You don't need to hunt for a SIM shop in each city or waste your first 2 hours of the trip standing in line at an airport kiosk.
Comparison: eSIM Ahora vs other regional providers
| Provider | Coverage (countries) | Price 10 GB | Throttling FUP | Support |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| eSIM Ahora | 30+ (EU + UK + Switzerland) | $25–$40 (14 days) | No | Email + Telegram (response <4 h) |
| Holafly | 30+ (EU + UK + Switzerland) | $47 (15 days, unlimited data with throttling at 5 GB) | Yes (512 kbps after 5 GB/day) | 24/7 chat |
| Airalo | 39 (EU + Balkans) | $37 (20 GB, 30 days) | No | In-app chat |
At eSIM Ahora we don't apply FUP (Fair Use Policy) throttling — if you buy 10 GB, you use 10 GB at full speed. Holafly offers "unlimited data" but from 5 GB per day speed drops to 512 kbps, insufficient for video calls or uploading high-resolution photos. Airalo covers more Southeast European countries (Albania, Serbia, Montenegro) but their 20 GB plan costs $37 — if you only need 10 GB for 2 weeks, you're paying $12 extra.
Speeds and frequency bands in Europe
4G LTE
European carriers mainly use LTE bands 3 (1800 MHz), 7 (2600 MHz), and 20 (800 MHz). Band 20 offers better penetration indoors and in rural areas; band 7 delivers higher capacity in cities. Your device must support at least bands 3 and 20 to have stable coverage across Europe.
Typical download speeds:
- Madrid, Paris, Berlin, Rome (urban centers): 50–150 Mbps on 4G+.
- Towns and roads between cities: 15–50 Mbps on standard 4G.
- Mountainous areas (Alps, Pyrenees, Dolomites): 5–15 Mbps on 3G/4G, with intermittent coverage.
5G
Several European countries deployed 5G between 2020 and 2024 (Spain, France, Germany, Italy, UK, Netherlands, Switzerland). eSIM Ahora's regional plans include 5G access in cities where available, at no extra charge. You need a compatible device (iPhone 12 or later, Samsung Galaxy S21 or later, Google Pixel 5 or later).
5G speeds measured in June 2026:
- Barcelona, Munich, Amsterdam, Zurich: 200–600 Mbps on 5G NSA (Non-Standalone).
- London, Milan, Brussels: 150–400 Mbps on 5G NSA.
5G Standalone (SA) networks started rolling out in 2025 in select capitals, but most of Europe's 5G coverage remains NSA (anchored to 4G core). For a traveler, the practical difference is minimal — both deliver speeds sufficient for 4K streaming, HD video calls, and uploading full photo albums in minutes.
Use cases: typical itineraries across Europe
Mediterranean Route (14 days, Spain–France–Italy)
Days 1–4: Barcelona (Spain) — connection to Movistar or Orange Spain, 4G+ speeds of 80–120 Mbps downtown, 30–50 Mbps in residential neighborhoods.
Days 5–7: Lyon and Marseille (France) — automatic roaming to Orange France or SFR, no interruptions crossing the border.
Days 8–10: Genoa and Cinque Terre (Italy) — device switches to TIM or Vodafone Italy. In coastal towns coverage drops to 15–30 Mbps (standard 4G), sufficient for Google Maps and WhatsApp.
Days 11–14: Florence and Rome (Italy) — 5G available in historic centers, speeds of 200–400 Mbps.
A 10 GB plan covers this itinerary with moderate use (navigation, social media, 1–2 video calls per day). If you plan to upload high-resolution photos to Instagram or do work video calls every day, consider a 15–20 GB plan.
Central Europe Route (10 days, Germany–Austria–Czech Republic)
Days 1–3: Munich (Germany) — connection to Deutsche Telekom or Vodafone Germany, 5G coverage downtown (300–500 Mbps).
Days 4–6: Salzburg and Vienna (Austria) — roaming to A1 Telekom or Magenta Austria, 4G+ speeds of 50–100 Mbps.
Days 7–10: Prague (Czech Republic) — automatic switch to O2 Czech Republic or T-Mobile CZ, stable coverage in the Old Town and surroundings.
This itinerary is geographically more compact, so 7 GB may be sufficient if you don't use video streaming.
Device compatibility
To use an eSIM Ahora regional plan you need a device compatible with eSIM and unlocked (not tied to a carrier). Most smartphones launched since 2019 support eSIM, but verify your specific model:
iPhone
- iPhone XS, XS Max, XR (2018) and later.
- iPhone SE (2020, 2022).
- iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 (all models).
Android
- Google Pixel 3, 3a, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 (all models).
- Samsung Galaxy S20, S21, S22, S23, S24 (all models, except Chinese variants).
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, 3, 4, 5 and Z Flip 3, 4, 5.
- Motorola Razr (2019, 2020, 2023).
- Oppo Find X3 Pro, Find X5 Pro, Reno 6 Pro 5G and later.
Models sold in mainland China (except Hong Kong) don't include eSIM hardware. If you bought your device in China, check Settings > About > IMEI — if only one IMEI appears, it doesn't have eSIM.
Installation step by step
- Purchase the regional plan on our France or Germany page (the plan is the same, only the example country changes).
- Receive the QR code by email in under 2 minutes (check spam/promotions if you don't see it).
- Scan the QR code from Settings > Mobile Data > Add Data Plan (iOS) or Settings > Network & Internet > SIM > Add (Android).
- Label the profile as "Europe Travel" to distinguish it from your primary line.
- Activate the profile before you leave — you can install it on WiFi at home and activate it when you're ready to use it.
- Land in Europe and you'll see the network indicator (Orange, Vodafone, TIM, etc.) in the status bar within 30–60 seconds.
You don't need to power off your device or manually change APN settings. The eSIM profile comes with all automatic configuration.
Limits and restrictions
Calls and SMS
eSIM Ahora data plans do not include a local phone number. They offer mobile data (internet) only. If you need to make calls, use WhatsApp, Telegram, FaceTime (audio), or Skype — all work over data.
To receive SMS (2FA codes from banks, for example), keep your primary line active as a secondary line. iPhones with dual SIM can have the eSIM Ahora eSIM as your data line and your physical SIM as your voice/SMS line.
Tethering (sharing internet)
We allow tethering at no extra charge. You can share your connection with your laptop or a travel companion's device. If you share internet with 2–3 devices simultaneously, data consumption multiplies — a 10 GB plan can be exhausted in 5–6 days if everyone is streaming video.
Plan validity
Regional plans have fixed validity (7, 14, 21, or 30 days depending on the package you buy). Validity starts when you activate the profile for the first time (when your device connects to the network), not when you purchase. If you buy on July 1 and activate on July 5, the plan expires on July 19 (14 days from activation).
You cannot pause the plan. If you leave Europe before validity ends, unused data is lost.
FAQ
How much data do I need for 2 weeks in Europe?
With moderate use (Google Maps, WhatsApp, Instagram, 1–2 half-hour video calls per week), 7–10 GB is enough for 14 days. If you plan to upload high-resolution photos every day, do work video calls, or watch Netflix series, consider 15–20 GB.
Can I install multiple eSIM profiles on the same device?
Yes. iPhones (XS and later) and most Android devices (Pixel, Samsung Galaxy) let you store 8–10 eSIM profiles, but only one can be active at a time. You can install Europe's regional plan and another plan for Turkey or Morocco, and switch between them from Settings in under 10 seconds.
What if I use up my data before validity ends?
You can buy an additional plan (top up) without deleting the previous profile. You'll receive a new QR code by email and install it as a secondary profile. You can also use public WiFi at hotels, cafés, or train stations for the final hours of your trip.
Does the regional plan work in the UK after Brexit?
Yes. Although the UK left the European Union in 2020, regional eSIM plans for Europe typically include coverage in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland at no extra charge. You'll connect to Vodafone UK, EE, or Three automatically.
Can I use the plan in subway or train?
Metro coverage depends on each city. Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, London, and Berlin have 4G coverage on all metro lines (antennas installed in tunnels). Smaller cities may have coverage only at stations, not in tunnels. On intercity trains (AVE, TGV, ICE), coverage is continuous in Spain, France, and Germany — signal only drops for seconds in long tunnels.
