In Latin America, 68% of adults don't have a credit card (World Bank, 2025). Traveling without international roaming typically requires a Visa or Mastercard, blocking millions of people. At eSIM Ahora we accept bank transfers, cash at retailers (OXXO, Rapipago, PagoFácil), digital wallets (Mercado Pago, PSE, SPEI), and cryptocurrencies so you can buy mobile data without relying on traditional credit.

This post details which methods work in each country, how long they take to process, and how to activate your eSIM after alternative payment.

Payment methods without credit card accepted in LATAM

At eSIM Ahora we process payments through Stripe, Mercado Pago, and Coinbase Commerce. Each processor enables different local methods:

Bank transfer (SPEI, PSE, PIX)

  • Mexico (SPEI): credited in 30–90 minutes. Compatible with all Mexican banks. You enter your 18-digit CLABE in checkout; you receive a reference number and execute the transfer from your mobile banking. The eSIM QR arrives by email when Stripe confirms payment.
  • Colombia (PSE): you confirm payment in real time by logging into your bank within the Mercado Pago flow. Processing in 1–5 minutes. Works with Bancolombia, Davivienda, BBVA Colombia, Banco de Bogotá, and 23+ other institutions.
  • Brazil (PIX): you generate a QR or PIX key in checkout. Open your banking app, scan the code, and payment confirms in seconds. Compatible with Itaú, Bradesco, Banco do Brasil, Nubank, Inter, and all banks that support PIX.
  • Argentina: Mercado Pago processes CBU/CVU transfers. Takes 2–24 hours to credit, depending on your bank. After confirmation, you receive the eSIM QR by email.

Advantage: no extra fee. You pay catalog price (around $3–$8 per 3 GB in Mexico; see current plans for Mexico).

Cash at retailers

  • OXXO (Mexico): generate a barcode coupon in checkout. Go to any OXXO store, present the coupon to the cashier, and pay in cash. Credits in 1–3 hours after scan. Per-transaction limit: 10,000 MXN.
  • Rapipago / PagoFácil (Argentina): print the coupon from Mercado Pago checkout. Take cash to the nearest branch and pay at the window. Credits in 24–48 hours. Mercado Pago charges a 2.99% fee on the total amount.
  • Baloto (Colombia): similar to OXXO. Generate the coupon, pay cash at any Baloto point, and the system confirms payment in 2–6 hours.

Drawback: wait time. If you need data upon airport arrival, buy 72 hours before your flight.

Digital wallets

  • Mercado Pago (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay): if you have a balance in your Mercado Pago account, payment is instant. Works like a prepaid card within the Mercado Libre ecosystem. Credits in seconds.
  • SPEI (Mexico): digital banking apps (Nu, Klar, Uala Mexico) generate SPEI transfers from your phone without visiting a bank. Confirm with fingerprint and payment credits in 30–90 minutes.

Advantage over cash: speed. You activate your eSIM the same day you buy.

Cryptocurrencies

We accept Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), USDC, and USDT via Coinbase Commerce. Checkout generates a unique deposit address; you send the exact amount from your wallet (Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, Ledger, MetaMask), and the system confirms payment after 1–6 network confirmations (10–60 minutes for BTC; 2–5 minutes for ETH/USDC).

Network fee: you pay blockchain gas fees (around $0.50–$5 depending on congestion). eSIM Ahora adds no markup.

Privacy: we don't require your full name or physical address for crypto payments. Activation email goes to the address you enter in checkout.

Holafly Card only
Airalo Card only

As of May 2026, Holafly and Airalo accept only Visa, Mastercard, and Apple Pay, excluding travelers without an international card. We process 23% of our LATAM orders via alternative methods (internal data, Q1 2026).

How to buy step by step without a card

Option 1: OXXO (Mexico)

  1. Go to plans for Mexico.
  2. Select your plan (example: 3 GB valid 30 days).
  3. At checkout, choose "OXXO" as payment method.
  4. Enter your email and generate the barcode coupon.
  5. Download the PDF or screenshot the code.
  6. Visit any OXXO within the next 72 hours (coupon expires).
  7. Show the code to the cashier and pay cash.
  8. The system detects payment in 1–3 hours. You receive the eSIM QR by email.
  9. Scan the QR from Settings > Cellular > Add Cellular Plan (iOS) or Settings > Network & Internet > SIM Manager (Android).

Option 2: PSE (Colombia)

  1. Go to plans for Colombia.
  2. At checkout, select "PSE".
  3. Choose your bank from the dropdown (Bancolombia, Davivienda, BBVA, etc.).
  4. You're redirected to your bank's portal. Log in with username and dynamic PIN.
  5. Authorize the debit from your checking or savings account.
  6. Mercado Pago confirms payment in real time. QR reaches your email in 1–5 minutes.
  7. Activate the eSIM before travel or upon landing.

Option 3: Bitcoin

  1. Navigate to plans for Argentina (or any other country).
  2. At checkout, select "Cryptocurrency".
  3. Choose the coin (BTC, ETH, USDC, or USDT).
  4. Copy the deposit address or scan the QR from your wallet.
  5. Send the exact amount shown on screen. Don't add or subtract satoshis; the system rejects incorrect payments.
  6. Wait for network confirmations (6 for BTC, 12 for ETH/ERC-20).
  7. Coinbase Commerce notifies eSIM Ahora; you receive the QR by email in 10–60 minutes.

Key difference: with card payments, the QR arrives in 30 seconds. Alternative methods require operational patience.

LATAM countries with local methods

At eSIM Ahora we enable card-free methods in 8 Latin American countries (June 2026):

Regions without full coverage: Ecuador, Bolivia, Paraguay, Venezuela, and Central America (except Panama and Costa Rica) accept only credit/debit card or crypto. We're integrating local methods for Q3 2026.

Prerequisites before alternative payment

Before buying without a card, verify:

Your device supports eSIM

Compatible iPhones: iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, 11, 11 Pro, 12, 12 Pro, 13, 13 Pro, 14, 14 Pro, 15, 15 Pro, SE (2020, 2022). NOT compatible: iPhone X, 8, 7, 6.

Compatible Android: Google Pixel 3/4/5/6/7/8 (not 3a/4a), Samsung Galaxy S20/S21/S22/S23/S24 (international versions; some LATAM models have eSIM locked), Motorola Razr 2019+, OPPO Find X3 Pro.

How to check on iOS: Settings > General > About > EID. If you see a 32-digit number, your iPhone supports eSIM.

How to check on Android: Settings > About Phone > Status > EID/IMEI. If an EID appears, hardware is compatible. If your model is on our compatibility list but you see no EID, contact your carrier — some carriers block eSIM via software.

You have Internet to activate

eSIM downloads as a mobile profile of 50–200 KB. You need WiFi or mobile data at the moment you scan the QR. Options:

  • Before travel: activate the eSIM at home on your WiFi. Leave it inactive ("Turn Off This Plan" on iOS, "Deactivate" on Android) until you reach your destination.
  • At the airport: use free airport WiFi to scan the QR and download the profile. Activate the eSIM after customs.
  • At your hotel: connect to hotel WiFi on day one.

Common mistake: trying to activate without Internet. The process fails and the user thinks they paid for broken service. QR requires online download the first time.

Processing time by method

Based on internal data from 4,200 transactions processed in LATAM (January–May 2026):

Method Average time 95th percentile
PSE (Colombia) 2 min 8 min
PIX (Brazil) 15 sec 3 min
SPEI (Mexico) 45 min 2 h
OXXO (Mexico) 90 min 4 h
Rapipago (Argentina) 6 h 36 h
Bitcoin (6 conf.) 35 min 75 min
Ethereum (12 conf.) 8 min 22 min

Operational tip: if your flight leaves in under 6 hours, use PSE or PIX. For OXXO/Rapipago, buy 48 hours in advance.

Billing and deductibility

All payment methods generate full electronic invoice with:

  • Seller name (eSIM Ahora S.L., Spanish tax ID).
  • Buyer's RFC/CUIT/CNPJ (if you enter it in checkout).
  • VAT breakdown at 21% (Spain) or 0% (digital service export to LATAM under EU rules).

Tax deduction: in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and Chile, freelancers and businesses can deduct 100% of telecommunications expenses. eSIM Ahora's invoice meets CFDI requirements (Mexico), electronic invoice (Colombia), Class B receipt (Argentina), and electronic ticket (Chile).

Where to download: your invoice arrives by email with the activation QR. If you don't receive it, request it from support@esimahora.com with your order number.

Support after payment

If payment doesn't credit in the expected time:

  1. Check your confirmation email. Stripe, Mercado Pago, and Coinbase Commerce send a receipt with transaction status. Check spam.
  2. Check your bank statement. Confirm the debit appears in your account. If it debited but you didn't receive the QR, send us the payment proof to support@esimahora.com.
  3. Check coupon expiry. OXXO, Rapipago, and Baloto coupons expire in 72 hours. If you pay after expiry, the retailer rejects the code and you must generate a new one.
  4. Contact support. We respond in under 4 hours via email or Telegram (@esimahora_support). Include:
    • Order number (format: ESA-XXXXXX).
    • Screenshot of payment proof.
    • Method used (OXXO, PSE, BTC, etc.).

We don't offer 24/7 live chat like Holafly, but our team in Madrid (UTC+1) and Mexico City (UTC-6) covers 14-hour windows daily (Monday–Sunday).

FAQ

Can I pay in installments without a card?

No. Mercado Pago enables installments only with credit cards issued in Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico. Card-free methods (OXXO, PSE, PIX, transfer) require single upfront payment. If you need to spread the cost, buy smaller plans (1 GB instead of 10 GB) and recharge as you use data.

Does cash payment have an extra fee?

OXXO, Baloto, and PSE have no additional charge — you pay catalog price. Rapipago and PagoFácil charge a 2.99% fee managed by Mercado Pago. Example: if the plan costs 2,000 ARS, you pay 2,059.80 ARS at the window.

What if the OXXO coupon expires before I pay?

The coupon auto-invalidates 72 hours after generation. If you try to pay after, the OXXO cashier rejects the code. You must go back to checkout and generate a new coupon with the same order or create a new order. The first order stays canceled with no charge.

Can I use the same eSIM across multiple trips?

Yes, if you buy a plan with 30-day validity and 3 GB, you can activate it today, use 1 GB on a Mexico trip, deactivate it when you return, and reactivate in 2 weeks to use the remaining 2 GB — always within 30 days from first activation. After that period, the plan expires even if data remains.

Do you accept international debit without a credit card?

Yes. Visa/Mastercard debit cards issued by Mexican, Colombian, Argentine, Chilean, and Brazilian banks work in Stripe checkout just like credit cards. The only difference is your bank debits the amount directly from your checking or savings account. You don't need approved credit.

How long does a refund take if I cancel after paying?

Refunds processed via Stripe (SPEI, PSE, card) return to your original method in 5–10 business days. Cash payments (OXXO, Rapipago) are non-refundable — Mercado Pago and Stripe don't allow cash refunds. If you need to cancel an OXXO order, we can convert the amount to store credit valid 12 months for future purchases.
