eSIM Without a Credit Card in LATAM: What We Actually Accept (2026)

Today we accept card only — no OXXO, PIX, PSE, SPEI or crypto. What real options are left without a card, and what to check before you buy.

In Latin America a large share of adults hold no credit card, and buying mobile data for a trip usually demands a Visa or Mastercard. That is a real problem. This page exists to answer it plainly, and today the answer is an uncomfortable one.

eSIM Ahora accepts card only (debit or credit, via Stripe). We do not accept cash in shops (OXXO, Rapipago, Baloto, PagoFácil), local transfers (SPEI, PSE, PIX), or wallets such as Mercado Pago. Crypto payment exists in the product but is switched off in production.

We say it at the top because the cost of not saying it is paid by whoever reaches the checkout after reading a guide that promised otherwise.

Why a local debit card sometimes fails

When a card is declined it is nearly always one of these, and none of them is fixable from our side:

  • International purchases disabled. Many regional banks ship them off by default; you enable them in the bank's app.
  • Charge in a foreign currency. The charge is made in euros and your bank converts. Some prepaid cards do not allow it.
  • 3D Secure. If your bank asks for confirmation and the SMS never arrives, the payment dies on its own.

What real options are left

We are not going to list methods we do not offer. Outside us, two routes do work:

  • A virtual card issued by a digital wallet running on the Visa or Mastercard network.
  • Someone else buys it. The eSIM is not tied to the payer: the QR installs on whichever phone you name.

If cash is your only means of payment, we are not your provider today.

Two things to check before paying

These are the most common cause of a purchase that turns out useless, and neither depends on the payment method.

That the phone takes an eSIM. On iOS, Settings → Cellular → "Add Cellular Plan" (iPhone XS/XR from 2018 onward). On Android, Settings → Connections → SIM Manager (Pixel 3+, Galaxy S20+). The handset must also be carrier-unlocked.

That you switch on Data Roaming for the eSIM line. Travel eSIMs arrive with roaming off; without it you get bars and no data. It is the number one reason people write to support.

Invoicing

We issue a Spanish invoice: issuer tax ID, your tax ID if you provide it, and a VAT breakdown. It is valid for deduction in Spain and the European Union.

We do not issue a CFDI (Mexico), a Colombian electronic invoice, an Argentine Class B receipt or a Chilean electronic ticket. If you need to deduct the expense before one of those authorities, our document will not do — better to know before buying than after. The specific SAT and AFIP requirements are set out in Holafly Invoice: How to Get One + VAT Deduction Limits.

FAQ

Do you accept OXXO, PIX, PSE or SPEI?

No. Card only.

Do you accept crypto?

The rail exists but is switched off in production. Do not count on it until it is announced.

Can I pay with account balance?

Yes, if you already hold one. But that balance is topped up by card, so it does not solve having no card.

Does your invoice work for deduction in Mexico?

No. It is Spanish, not a CFDI.

Will you add local payment methods?

There is no date and we are not going to promise one. This page will be updated if that changes.
