Can You Pay for an eSIM at OXXO? The Honest Answer (2026)
We do not accept OXXO cash or SPEI today — card only. What you need to buy an eSIM in Mexico, which network it uses, and what invoice we actually issue.
Short answer: not with us. Today eSIM Ahora accepts card only (debit or credit, via Stripe). We do not generate OXXO barcodes, we do not accept SPEI or bank transfers, and crypto payment is switched off.
We would rather say it in the first line. Searching for "pay for eSIM at OXXO" and landing on a page that promises a method which does not exist costs more than a plain no: it means finding out at checkout.
What actually works today
A Visa or Mastercard at the Mexico plans checkout. The charge is made in euros and your bank applies the conversion, so the card needs international purchases enabled — that is the most common reason a regional debit card gets declined.
If you already hold a balance in your eSIM Ahora account you can spend it. That balance is topped up by card, so it does not solve the "I have no card" case.
If you have no international card
We are not going to invent an alternative we do not offer. The real options sit outside us: a virtual Visa/Mastercard from a digital wallet that issues one, or having someone with a card buy it and send you the QR — the eSIM installs on whichever phone you point it at, not the buyer's.
If cash is your only means, we are not your provider today. That is a short answer, but it is the true one.
Before buying: check your phone takes an eSIM
This is the number one cause of purchases that turn out useless, and it has nothing to do with the payment method.
- iOS: Settings → Cellular. If "Add Cellular Plan" or "Add eSIM" appears, you are compatible. iPhone XS/XR (2018) and later.
- Android: Settings → Connections → SIM Manager. Google Pixel 3+, Samsung Galaxy S20+ and later flagships.
The phone must also be carrier-unlocked.
Which network the eSIM uses in Mexico
Our Mexico plans attach to Telcel and AT&T. That comes from the catalogue, not a brochure: if your phone stays on automatic selection and latches onto another network, you will see bars and no data. If that happens, open manual network selection and pick Telcel or AT&T.
Invoicing: what we actually issue
We do not issue a CFDI. Our invoice is a Spanish one: issuer tax ID, your tax ID if you provide it, and a VAT breakdown. It works for deduction in Spain and the European Union.
To deduct before the SAT you need a CFDI with a UUID, issuer and recipient RFC and the digital seal of an authorised PAC (Article 29-A of the Federal Tax Code). Our document does not meet that, and saying so before the purchase is more useful than discovering it with your accountant.

Do you accept cash at OXXO?
No. Card only today. Nor SPEI, bank transfer, Rapipago or Baloto.
Do you accept crypto?
The rail exists in the product but is switched off in production. It will be announced if that changes; until then, do not count on it.
Do you issue an invoice with an RFC for deduction in Mexico?
No. We issue a Spanish invoice with a tax ID and VAT, valid in Spain and the EU. It is not a CFDI and the SAT will not accept it as a deductible document.
Can I buy if I live in Mexico and travel within the country?
Yes, provided you have a card and a compatible, unlocked phone. Mexico plans are at /buy/MX.

There is no date and we are not going to promise one. This page will be updated if that changes.
