Mobile networks in Bangladesh

Bangladesh has three main carriers: Grameenphone (Telenor subsidiary, largest nationwide coverage, 5G in Dhaka and Chattogram), Robi (broad urban 5G), and Banglalink (Veon subsidiary, best rural value). The eSIM Ahora connects to the strongest network. Plugs are Types C, D, and G (British and Indian mix), 220V — use a universal adapter. 4G reaches Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet, Khulna, and most of the rail network, but the Sundarbans delta has no-signal zones.

Travel tips for Bangladesh

Dhaka Hazrat Shahjalal Airport (DAC) offers limited free WiFi. The currency is the taka (BDT, non-exportable — spend before leaving). Use Standard Chartered, HSBC, and Citibank N.A. ATMs to avoid tourist commissions. Visa on arrival costs USD 51 (e-visa cheaper). Tips are 5-10%. Bangladesh is Muslim but Western apps work. Watch traffic in Dhaka — Uber and Pathao (local) are the safest option. For Cox's Bazar (the world's longest beach, 120 km) coverage is full in the hotel zone.

Frequently asked questions about Bangladesh eSIM

Does the eSIM work in the Sundarbans and Ganges delta?
Partially. The populated parts of Khulna and the Sundarbans entrance have Grameenphone 4G coverage. Inside the mangrove forest (Bengal tiger territory) coverage disappears — organized tours carry radios. Coverage returns in edge fishing villages. For multi-day excursions, lodges use emergency satphones.
Does the eSIM cover the Chittagong Hill Tracts and tribal areas?
Yes in Chattogram and main roads. Banglalink and Grameenphone have 3G/4G coverage in Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachari. However, certain tribal zones require travel permits for foreigners — coverage exists but tourist access is restricted. Check the Ministry of Tribal Affairs regulations before planning.
Can I use the eSIM crossing to India by land (Petrapole or Tamabil)?
No. Our Bangladesh eSIM only works in Bengali territory. Crossing to India (Petrapole-Benapole toward Kolkata or Tamabil-Dawki toward Meghalaya), the eSIM stops working. For Bangladesh-India subcontinent loops consider one eSIM per country. India requires a pre-approved e-visa.
