Reasonable coverage at stations (Kandy, Hatton, Nanu Oya/Nuwara Eliya, Ella). Between stations and in Hill Country tunnels signal can be intermittent. Dialog typically has better rail coverage than Mobitel. For live photo posts from viewpoints, wait for the longer station stops.

Does the eSIM work on a Yala or Udawalawe safari?

Yes at entrances and main safari zones. Lodges and camps have steady 4G. More remote areas inside the parks (older sectors) may have weak signal — a good chance to unplug during the 4-5 hour safari.
