Mobile networks in Peru

Peru has three main carriers: Movistar Peru (Telefónica subsidiary, largest nationwide coverage), Claro Peru (Mexican América Móvil subsidiary, 5G in Lima), and Entel Peru (Chilean Entel subsidiary, best urban value). The eSIM Ahora connects to the strongest network. Plugs are mixed Type A, B, and C (American + European), 220V — verify adapter. 4G coverage reaches Lima, Cusco, Arequipa, Trujillo, Iquitos, Puno, and the entire tourist route Lima-Paracas-Nazca-Arequipa-Puno-Cusco-Machu Picchu.

Travel tips for Peru

Lima Jorge Chávez Airport (LIM) offers limited free WiFi. The currency is the Peruvian sol (PEN); use BCP (Banco de Crédito), Interbank, Scotiabank Peru, or BBVA Continental ATMs with no commission on foreign cards up to 700 PEN. Tips are 10% (sometimes already included as "servicio"). Beware altitude — Cusco is at 3,400m, Puno at 3,800m. Altitude affects the first 24-48h; chew coca leaves (legal in Peru) or have coca tea at hotels. Uber, Beat, and Cabify apps work in Lima. Beware unofficial airport taxis — use Uber or hotel taxis.

Frequently asked questions about Peru eSIM

Does the Peru eSIM work at Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, and train to Aguas Calientes?
Yes mostly. Cusco, Pisac, Ollantaytambo, and Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town) have Movistar and Claro 4G coverage. On the Inca Trail, covered stretches follow access roads — in deep trek sections (Dead Woman's Pass) there are no-signal zones. The Perurail/Inca Rail Ollantaytambo-Aguas Calientes train maintains 4G most of the way. At the Machu Picchu citadel itself coverage is limited — Sanctuary Lodge WiFi works.
Does the eSIM cover the Peruvian Amazon (Iquitos, Puerto Maldonado, Manu)?
Partially. Iquitos and Puerto Maldonado (Amazon cities) have Movistar and Claro 4G coverage. Once you enter the jungle by boat or plane toward remote lodges (Tambopata Research Center, Manu, Pacaya-Samiria), coverage drops fast — lodges typically have satellite communication or radio. For serious expedition consider Iridium GO. Coverage returns near riverside communities.
Does the Peru eSIM work crossing to Bolivia, Chile, or Ecuador?
No. Our Peru eSIM only works in Peruvian territory. Crossing to Bolivia (Desaguadero, Yunguyo from Puno to Copacabana/La Paz), Chile (Arica from Tacna), or Ecuador (Aguas Verdes to Tumbes), the eSIM stops working. For multi-country Andean tours consider one eSIM per country. Long tourist buses (Lima-La Paz, Cusco-Arica) often cross zones without coverage.
