Mobile networks in Serbia

mts (Telekom Srbija), Yettel (ex-Telenor) and A1 Srbija dominate the market with 4G+ across Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, Kragujevac and Subotica. 5G urban rollout since 2023 in Belgrade and Novi Sad. Good mountain coverage in Zlatibor, Kopaonik and Tara — remote southern villages (Sandžak, Pčinja valley) can have weaker signal. Kosovo runs separate networks (Vala, IPKO) and is NOT always covered by Serbian eSIMs — verify specific coverage. Serbia is NOT in the EU roam-like-at-home zone but has regional agreements with neighboring countries. Type C/F European plugs, 230V/50Hz.

Travel tips for Serbia

Fly into Belgrade-Nikola Tesla (BEG); bus A1 to center ~600 dinars (~5€). Currency Serbian dinar (RSD), ~117 RSD per euro. Serbia is very affordable — quality dinner 8-15€, mid-range hotel 40-80€. Belgrade has legendary nightlife (Sava-river splavovi floating clubs). Novi Sad hosts the EXIT festival in July. Day-trips: Sremski Karlovci (wines), Studenica (UNESCO monastery), Zlatibor mountain. Trains slow; bus dominates. Cyrillic is official but Latin alphabet also common. Visa/Mastercard widely accepted.

Frequently asked questions about Serbia eSIM

Does my Serbian eSIM work in Kosovo?
It depends. Serbia doesn't recognize Kosovo as a state and the networks are separate (Vala, IPKO in Kosovo). Some Serbian eSIMs include Kosovo as roaming, others don't work at all. If visiting Pristina or Prizren check coverage specifically or use a regional Balkans eSIM.
Is Serbia in EU roaming?
No. Serbia is an EU candidate but NOT in the roam-like-at-home agreement. Your EU plan will hit expensive international roaming. A local Serbian or regional Balkans eSIM is materially cheaper.
Is there 5G in Belgrade?
Yes. Telekom Srbija (mts) and Yettel launched 5G in Belgrade and Novi Sad in late 2023 with reasonable urban coverage and 200-400 Mbps speeds. Expansion to Niš and Kragujevac is ongoing through 2025-2026.
