Mobile networks in Georgia

Magti (leader), Silknet and Beeline Georgia are the three main operators. Excellent 4G+ across Tbilisi (capital), Batumi (Black Sea), Kutaisi, Rustavi, Telavi and Kazbegi. 5G in Tbilisi and Batumi since 2022. Georgian Caucasus: reasonable coverage in tourist villages (Stepantsminda/Kazbegi, Mestia in Svaneti, Ushguli — Europe's highest permanent village, Sno valley) but high trails and glaciers can have weak signal. Kakheti (wines), Mtskheta (UNESCO), monasteries covered. Abkhazia and South Ossetia (occupied/disputed regions) have separate Russian networks — check specific coverage. Georgia NOT in EU roaming zone. Type C/F European plugs, 220V/50Hz.

Frequently asked questions about Georgia eSIM

Is there 5G in Tbilisi?
Yes. Magti launched commercial 5G in Tbilisi from 2022, expanding to Batumi in 2023. Wide 5G coverage in Old Town, Vake, Saburtalo, Mtatsminda and the airport. Typical 5G speeds 200-500 Mbps. Silknet has also rolled out 5G. For visitors the 4G+ network is plenty outside Tbilisi/Batumi (50-150 Mbps typical).
Does the eSIM work in Svaneti (Mestia, Ushguli)?
Yes. Mestia (Svaneti capital) has steady Magti and Silknet 4G. Ushguli (2h by 4x4 from Mestia, Europe's highest year-round inhabited village at 2,200m) has basic coverage. High-altitude trails to Chalaadi glacier and Mt. Ushba may have weak/intermittent signal. Magti typically has better mountain coverage.
Is it safe to use eSIM in Georgia given tensions with Russia?
Yes in the 80% of territory Georgia controls. Abkhazia and South Ossetia (Russia-occupied since 2008) have separate Russian networks — if you visit (highly restricted access) your Georgian eSIM won't work and using Russian networks has legal/political implications. Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, all mainstream tourist Caucasus are completely normal and safe.
