Mobile networks in Nepal

Ncell (leader on many KPIs) and Nepal Telecom (NTC) are the two main operators. Excellent 4G across Kathmandu (capital, Kathmandu Valley), Pokhara (Annapurna base), Lukla (Everest airport), Namche Bazaar, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur. Classic treks have surprisingly good coverage: Everest Base Camp Trek (Lukla → Tengboche → Dingboche → Lobuche → Gorak Shep → EBC 5,364m) has Ncell coverage in most villages up to Gorak Shep; the base camp itself has weak but usable signal. Annapurna Circuit (5,416m Thorong La pass) has reasonable teahouse-village coverage. No commercial 5G. Nepalese internet/cellular has occasional shutdowns for political reasons. Mixed Type C/D/M plugs, 230V/50Hz.

Frequently asked questions about Nepal eSIM

Is there coverage at Everest Base Camp (EBC)?
Surprisingly yes. Ncell offers 3G/4G coverage in trek villages (Lukla, Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche) all the way to Gorak Shep. EBC itself (5,364m) has intermittent Ncell signal — useful for photos with Mt. Everest backdrop and reporting to family. The Everest summit (8,849m) has coverage from Tibetan-side towers (China Mobile) — Sherpa-clients have called from the summit.
Does the eSIM work on the Annapurna Circuit?
Yes for most. 4G in Besisahar, Manang, Muktinath, Jomsom. Thorong La pass (5,416m, the circuit's highest point) may have weak signal but the teahouse villages before and after are covered. For Tilicho Lake (4,949m) coverage at Tilicho Base Camp but the lake trail can have intermittent signal. Ideal — you can trek connected without losing signal.
Does a regional South Asia eSIM cover Nepal?
Some 'South Asia' eSIMs include Nepal alongside India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Bangladesh. Effective coverage varies — verify specific quality for treks. Ncell typically has better mountain coverage than NTC. For Nepal-only visits, a local eSIM is materially cheaper.
