Mobile networks in Vietnam

Vietnam has three state carriers: Viettel (largest, biggest nationwide coverage including rural and mountain areas), MobiFone (5G in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh), and Vinaphone (good urban coverage). The currency is the Vietnamese dong (VND, non-exportable — prices have many zeros, 1 USD ≈ 25,000 VND). Use Vietcombank, BIDV, or Techcombank ATMs — watch for tourist commissions at independent ATMs. Tips are 10% at tourist restaurants. Grab (Asian Uber) is the safest taxi and motorbike option — works in all major cities. Beware airport taxis without meters: use only Mai Linh, Vinasun, or Grab. In Sung Sot and Thien Cung caves and kayaking in Lan Ha Bay signal drops briefly. Junks offer basic WiFi. For Cat Ba Island coverage returns on disembarkation.

Does the eSIM cover Sapa, Ha Giang, and northern mountain areas?

Yes. Sapa (3,143m, rice terraces, H'mong and Dao ethnic groups) has Viettel 4G coverage in the center and tourist routes.
